The Building & Grounds · St. Johns, North Portland
Come see what we’re building.
Twenty-three homes, a common house, and gardens on the corner of N. Edison Street and N. Burlington Avenue near Portland, Oregon’s St. Johns neighborhood. Designed by Mahlum Architects with landscapes by Shapiro Didway. Construction starts in 2027.

The Homes
Your own front door, and choose your neighbors
Every home is complete and private: a full kitchen, dining, living and bathrooms, in-home laundry hook-ups, and generous windows. Homes range from a cozy studio to three-bedroom homes, so the neighborhood holds singles, couples, and families side by side.
Homes on every floor open onto covered exterior walkways, the kind of front-porch connection that makes borrowing an egg easy and privacy just a closed door away.

Universal Design
Every home works for every body
All twenty-three homes are universally designed, so the community works for neighbors at every age and stage of life.
All 23 homes are universally designed, so a home that fits you now keeps fitting you as life changes.
An elevator and covered exterior walkways link every floor, every home, and the common house, in any weather.
The entire community will be built using Universal Design principles, so the whole site belongs to the entire community, regardless of ability.

The Common House
The living room we all share
The 1,500-square-foot common house anchors the ground floor with a big kitchen and a multipurpose room used for dining, book club, game night, or however the community is inspired to come together.
Glass doors open onto the large community terrace, a wide wooden deck with dining tables, lounge seating, and garden areas with a swing, just a short covered walk from your own front door. In total, it adds up to 6,600 square feet of shared space, plus parking.
Covered walkways connecting the buildings are designed to encourage community gathering and conversation, not just getting from one place to another.
The Grounds
Gardens central to design
The site is organized around green space, not parking. A series of gardens, including a swing and a water feature, sits at the center of the community, and a pollinator garden hums beside its paths. Planted borders, boulders, and landscape steps make the outdoors part of daily life rather than something you drive past.
Resident parking sits off N. Edison Street at the edge of the site, keeping the heart of the community for people.

A few homes are still open. The best way to know if one of them is yours is to come meet the people you’d share the terrace with.

We’re near the St. Johns neighborhood of North Portland, home of Cathedral Park and the St. Johns Bridge.
